Summer is eventually here. Some of you have already started your holidays while others are still ‘struggling’ in the city. However, I am going to suggest the 5 best festivals for this summer.

Summer is eventually here. Some of you have already started your holidays while others are still ‘struggling’ in the city. However, I am going to suggest the 5 best festivals for this summer.

The idea for this article came from the interview I gave to the Guardian and Tess Reidy about the electronic music scene in our country and the arrival of many tourists for this reason. As odd as it may sound, according to the Association of British Tourist Agents, more than 2 million British tourists visited our country last year and this number is sure to grow bigger this year. One reason for this is the accesion of the electronic scene in Greece.

Endorphin Festival
Hani Hatzigogou, Milea Elassonas, Greece
22th July – 23th July
The Endorphin Festival- as its official Facebook page informs us- is an annual meeting of Dj’s, producers and musicians of the underground electronic scene. They come from various places around Greece and Central Europe. It is a two-day festival that takes place in the forest of Hani Hatzigogou (65th km Larissa - Kozani), in a breath taking site at the foothills of mountain Olympus. The festival’s debut was in the May of 2007 and since then, it evolves year after year. What else can I say for this festival? 40KW sound system, an amazing scenery, top Dj’s and producers. If you are a fan of the underground music scene, then this festival is a must.

Madorasindahouse Presents Rhythmatic Open Air Festival
Fragma Panagiotiko, Pelion, Greece
6th August – 8th August
Pelion, how many great things have you heard about this place. And certainly, many of us have visited and seen its beauty. Maybe you have dreamed of a festival, somewhere around trees, under the sun, next to the water and with the company of your favourite artists. Possibly, these were also the dreams of the Rhytmatic Open Air Festival team when they decided to organise this festival. It will be a two-day festival and you will have the chance to to listen to artists like Stephan Bodzin, Dennis Ferrer, Catz’N Dogs, Chrissy Hope and many more, in a dreamy place at the heart of Pelion.

Reborn Festival
Akrotiri Beach (Moudros, Fanaraki area), Lemnos Island, Greece
12th August – 14th August
The marvellous island of Hephaestus, Lemnos -with the rare natural phenomenon in Europe of Sand Dunes in Ammothines (a desert in the inland) - is the base of Reborn Festival. RBRN started in July 2013 as a spontaneous action with the aim to establish itself as an alternative suggestion of expression and entertainment via cultural and musical events. This is the 4rth year of the festival and artists like Thodoris Triantafilou, Kosmas Epsilon, Roni Iron and many others will be there. If you want to combine vacation on an island and party, I think this is the best choice.

Odyssia Festival
Cariocas Beach Bar Alepokhóri, Attiki, Greece
30th August – 5th September
Don’t get afraid by the name. I am not referring to any ‘Odyssey’ like the one written by Homer and the ultimate destination is definitely not Ithaca. The Cariocas Beach Bar is where Odyssia Festival will occur. Boat Parties, secret beach parties, 4 dance floors, custom made sound system, performance art, workshops, speeches, art installations and outdoor activities are just a few of the many components of this festival. Dj Harvey, Body & Soul and Giles Peterson are just a sample of the big names participating in the festival. If you want to experience a different ‘Odyssey’, I highly recommend this

Reworks Festival
Mylos, Thessaloniki, Greece
14th September – 18th September
Thessaloniki, September and the end of summer signal for me the beginning of Reworks Festival. The festival that is already on its 11th year and has hosted more than 900 artists and groups. A landmark and source of inspiration for all the aforementioned newer festivals. This year is going to be even better and with more artists from the international electronic scene. Solomun, Kink (whom I know many of you love, including me), Jamie Woon, Ben Klock, GusGus and many more. The list is too long to mention all the artists that will participate in this year’s lineup. Reworks – as its organizers suggest – is a celebration, a place where older and newer friends from all over the world are meeting with common goal their love for music. If you haven’t experienced a similar event of this scale, then this is a good chance to do it this year. Not only those of you who listen to electronic music but also, those of your friends who aren’t so into it. They are bound to love it. This is an amazing music experience.

To conclude, my thoughts are these: if our people – at the deepest of an economic crisis - can still create, smile and have fun, how is it going to be like when things get better?
I would like to thank all the organizers, DJ’s and producers that keep alive the electronic music and a greater thank you to all the people who continue to support such events -that are sure to become the norm in our country.

To καλοκαίρι ως γνωστόν είναι εδώ, όλοι νομίζω μπορούμε να το νιώσουμε κάποιοι απο έσας εχετε ήδη ξεκινήσει τις διακοπές σας ενώ κάποιοι αλλοι παλεύετε ακόμα στην πόλη, παρ΄ ολα αυτα εγώ θα σας προτείνω τα πέντε καλυτερα φεστιβάλ για το φετινό καλοκαίρι.

Αρχικά η ιδέα του άρθου μου ήρθε με αφορμή την συνέντευξη που έδωσα στην Guardian and Tess Reidy σχετικά με την ηλεκτρονική σκηνή στην χώρα μας και την προσέλευση ολο και περισσοτέρων τουριστών για αυτο τον σκοπό. Όσο περίεργο και αν ακούγεται σε κάποιους σύμφωνα με την Ένωση Βρετανών Τουριστικών Πρακτόρων, περισσότεροι απο δύο εκατομμύρια βρετανοί τουρίστες επισκέφτηκαν την χώρα μας πέρσυ και αναμένεται ακόμα μεγαλύτερος αριθμός φέτος, ένας απο τους λόγους είναι και η άνοδος της ηλεκτρονικής σκηνής στην χώρα μας.

Endorphin Festival
Χάνι Χατζηγώγου, Μηλέα Ελασσόνας, Ελλάδα
22 – 23 Ιουλίου
To Endorphin Festival οπώς αναφέρει και στην σελίδα του στο Facebook είναι μια ετήσια συνάντηση DJ's, παραγωγών και μουσικών της underground ηλεκτρονικής σκηνής, που προέρχονται από διάφορες περιοχές της Ελλάδας αλλα και της Κεντρικής Ευρώπης. Ειναι ενα διήμερο φεστιβάλ το οποιο λαμβάνει χώρα στο πλατανόδασος του Χάνι Χατζηγώγου (65ο χλμ Λάρισας – Κοζάνης), σε μια μαγευτική τοποθεσία στους πρόποδες του Ολύμπου. Το φεστιβάλ έκανε το ντεμπούτο του τον Μαϊο του 2007 και απο τοτε εξελίσσεται χρόνο με τον χρόνο όλο και περισσότερο. Τι άλλο να πώ για το φεστιβάλ αυτό, 40KW ηχοσύστημα, μαγευτικό τοπίο, κορυφαίο Dj’s και παραγωγοί αν εισαι φαν της underground ηλεκτρονικής σκηνής ειναι must να το επισκεφτεις.

Φράγμα Παναγιώτικο, Πήλιο, Ελλάδα
6 - 8 Αυγούστου
Πήλιο, πόσα όμορφα πράγματα έχετε ακούσει για αυτό το μέρος και σίγουρα πολλοι απο εσας το έχετε επισκεφτεί και έχετε δεί αυτην την τεράστια πάρθενα ομορφιά. Ίσως να σκεφτήκατε το πόσο υπέροχο θα ήταν ένα φεστιβάλ ανάμεσα στα δέντρα κάτω απο τον καυτό ήλιο, δίπλα στο νερό και με συνοδεία τους αγαπημένους σας καλλιτέχνες. Κάτι τέτοιο φαντάζομαι είχε στο μυαλό της η ομάδα του Rhytmatic Open Air Festival όταν πήρε την απόφαση να διοργανώσει αυτο το φεστιβάλ. Θα διαρκέσει δύο μέρες και θα έχετε την ευκαιρία να ακούσετε καλλιτέχνες όπως ο Stephan Bodzin, ο Dennis Ferrer, οι Catz’N Dogs, ο Chrissy Hope και πολλοί αλλοί σε μια θαυμάσια τοποθεσία στην καρδιά του Πηλίου.

Reborn Festival
Παραλία Ακροτήρι (Μούδρος, Φαναράκι), Λήμνος, Ελλάδα
12 – 14 Αυγούστου
Το μαγευτικό νησί του Ηφαίστου η Λήμνος με το πιο σπάνιο φυσικό φαινόμενο στην Ευρώπη τις Αμμοθήνες μια «έρημο» στην ενδοχώρα του νησιού είναι η βάση του Reborn Festival. Το RBRN ξεκίνησε τον Ιούλιο του 2013 ως μία αυθόρμητη δράση με σκοπό να καθιερωθεί ως μία ενναλακτική πρόταση έκφρασης και ψυχαγωγίας μέσω πολιτιστικών και μουσικών δραστηριοτήτων. Η φετινή χρονιά είναι η 4η έκδοση του φεστιβάλ και παίρνουν μέρος καλλιτέχνες όπως ο Thodoris Triantafilou, o Kosmas Epsilon, o Roni Iron και διάφοροι αλλοι. Αν θέλετε να συνδυάσετε διακοπές σε νήσι και party νομίζω είναι η ποιό κατάληλη επιλογή.

Μην σας φοβίζει το όνομα δεν αναφέρομαι σε κάποια Οδύσσεια σαν αυτη που έγραψε ο Όμηρος και ο τελικός προορισμός σίγουρα δεν είναι η Ιθάκη αλλα το Cariocas Beach Bar οπου εκεί θα λάβει χώρα το Odyssia Festival. Boat Parties, secret beach parties, 4 dance floors, custom made ηχοσύστημα, perfomance art, workshops, ομιλίες, εικαστικές εγκαταστάσεις και υπαίθριες δραστηριότητες ειναι μόνο μερικά απο τα συστατικά που συντέλουν στην δημιουργία του. Ο Dj Harvey οι Body & Soul και ο Giles Peterson είναι κάποια από τα μεγάλα ονόματα που παίρνουν μέρος στο φεστιβάλ. Αν θέλετε να ζήσετε μια διαφορετική “Oδύσσεια” σας το συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα.

Reworks Festival
Μύλος, Θεσσαλονίκη, Ελλάδα
14 – 18 Σεπτεμβρίου
Η Θεσσαλονίκη, ο Σεπτέμβριος και το τέλος του καλοκαιριού εχουν σηματοδοτηθεί για μένα ως η έναρξη του Reworks Festival. Το φεστιβάλ που μετράει ήδη 11 χρόνια και το οποίο έχει φιλοξενήσει πάνω απο 900 καλλιτέχνες και σχήματα τα τελευταία χρόνια είναι νομίζω ένα σήμα αναφοράς και έμπνευσης για τα φεστιβάλ που αναφέρθηκαν παραπάνω. Η φετινή χρονιά θα είναι ακόμα καλύτερη και με ακόμα περισσότερα ονόματα της διέθνους ηλεκτρονικής σκηνής. Ο Solomun, O Kink (που ξέρω οτι πολλοί εκεί έξω λατρέυετε μάζι με εσάς και εγώ), ο Jamie Woon, o Ben Klock , οι GusGus και άλλοι. Η λίστα είναι πολύ μεγάλη για να τους αναφέρω όλους όσους θα συμμετάσχουν στο φετινό lineup. To Reworks όπως λένε και οι ίδιοι οι διοργανωτές του είναι μια γιορτή, ένα μέρος που παλίοι και νέοι φίλοι απο όλο τον κόσμο συναντιούνται με μοναδικό σκοπό την αγάπη τους για την μουσική. Αν δεν έχετε έρθει ξανά σε επαφή με κάποιο ανάλογο φεστιβάλ τέτοιου μεγέθους πιστεύω θα ήταν μία καλή ευκαιρία να το κάνετε φετος τόσο όσο έσεις που ακούτε ηλεκτρονική μουσική όσο και οι φίλοι σας που ίσως δεν ειναι τόσο fan. Eίναι μία καταπληκτική μουσική εμπειρία.

Κλείνοντας οι σκέψεις μου είναι οι εξής: Αν σαν λαός που βρισκόμαστε μέσα στα βάθη της οικονομικής κρίσης καταφέρνουμε άκομα να δημιουργούμε πράγματα, να χαμογελάμε και να διασκεδάζουμε τι θα συμβεί όταν τα πράγματα ανακάμψουν?
Ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ σε όλους τους διοργανωτές, Dj’s και παραγωγούς που κρατούν ζωντανή την ηλεκτρονική μουσική και ένα ακόμα μεγαλύτερο στον κόσμο που συνεχίζει να υποστηρίζει τέτοια γεγονότα που τείνουν να γίνουν θέσμοι στην χώρα μας.
