Tell us your personal story of how you got into DJing, and generally into music...
I started when I was 19 with Djing and produced my first records in 1995 together with Richard Bartz on the label Pomelo. When I started with Djing I played Hip Hop, Funk, Soul and of course House Music!

Many artists admit that they had problems with their parents when they decided to involve with music industry. How did your parents reacted?
Luckily my parents were really supportive. They even visited me sometimes in the club and when I could pay my first rent out of the DJ fee they were really proud that their child can survive with a different style of life.

No Historical Backspin...Tell us about how did you decide to form a charity organization and some of its acts.
I built no historical backspin to fight against racism, sexism, and intolerance. Unfortunately these topics are still happening all over the world. I got gay friends who were beaten up because they are gay. I saw and still see a lot of racist movement going on. We all know that women in the world still don't have the same rights than men. I wanted to do something against it, so I formed this organization no historical backspin. We throw parties in regions where one of the topics is really hot... All of the DJs or live-acts are playing for free and we donate the whole money to the Amadeu Antonio charity organization. They support victims from racist aggression.

MP3s and digital distribution. Being a DJ do you play with MP3s?
I do. Nowadays unfortunately you get a lot of stuff only digital and the other big problem is that even when you want to play records most of the clubs don't care about working record players anymore... Needles are jumping, the volume of the records is low and in order to prevent these kinds of problems I prefer to use CDs.

How do you feel about music piracy over the internet? You are the owner of Terminal M record label and Electric Avenue. In which ways do you fight piracy?
We hire agencies to look for illegal downloads but it is a fight we cannot win, if the people don't change their mind. You harm the artist, the label and the whole music industry. It is very disrespectful to download illegal stuff.

What does the future hold?
I hope a lot of fun and good music!

Περιέγραψέ μας την προσωπική σου ιστορία για το πως άρχισες να ασχολήσε με το DJing και γενικότερα με την μουσική.
Ξεκίνησα να ασχολούμαι με το DJing στην ηλικία των 19 και έκανα την παραγωγή των πρώτων μου δίσκων το 1995 με τον Richard Bartz στην δισκογραφική Pomelo. Όταν ξεκίνησα σαν DJ έπαιζα Hip Hop, Funk, Soul και φυσικά House!

Πολλοί καλλιτέχνες έχουν παραδεχτεί πως είχαν προβλήματα με τους γονείς τους όταν αποφάσισαν να μπούν στην μουσική βιομηχανία. Οι γονείς σου πως αντέδρασαν;
Ευτυχώς οι γονείς μου στήριξαν πραγματικά την απόφασή μου. Ακόμα, με επισκέφτηκαν και σε clubs και όταν μπόρεσα να πληρώσω το πρώτο μου ενοίκιο ήταν πολύ περήφανοι που το παιδί τους μπορούσε να ζήσει μέσα από ένα διαφορετικό τρόπο ζωής.

No Historical Backspin. Πες μας λίγα πράγματα για το πως αποφάσισες να ιδρύσεις αυτόν τον φιλανθρωπικό οργανισμό και κάποιες ενέργειες του.
Ίδρυσα αυτόν τον οργανισμό για να πολεμήσω ενάντια στον ρατσισμό, τον σεξισμό και την μισαλλοδοξία. Δυστυχώς αυτά τα φαινόμενα υπάρχουν ακόμα σε όλο τον κόσμο. Έχω gay φίλους που τους έχουν χτυπήσει επειδή είναι gay. Έβλεπα και βλέπω πολύ ρατσισμό στον κόσμο. Όλοι ξερουμε ότι οι γυναίκες ανα τον κόσμο δεν έχουν ακόμα τα ίδια δικαιώματα με τους άντρες. Ήθέλα να κάνω κάτι για να το πολεμήσω, έτσι ίδρυσα τον οργανισμό No Historical Backspin. Κάνουμε parties σε περιοχές που τα θέματα αυτά υπάρχουν ακόμα. Κανένας DJ δεν πληρώνεται και δίνουμε όλα τα χρήματα ως δωρεά στον οργανισμό Amadeu Antonio. Υποστηρίζουν τα θύματα της ρατσιστικής επιθετικότητας.

Ψηφιακή διανομή και mp3… Στα gigs σου παίζεις μέσω mp3;
Στις μέρες μας, δυστυχώς, πέρνεις πολύ υλικό μόνο ψηφιακά και το άλλο μεγάλο πρόβλημα είναι ότι ακόμα και να θέλεις να παίξεις δίσκους τα περισσότερα clubs δεν ενδιαφέρονται για την χρήση των record players. Οι βελόνες πηδάνε, η ένταση του δίσκου είναι χαμηλή και για να αποφύγω τέτοιου είδους προβλήματα προτιμώ να χρησιμοποιώ cds.

Η πειρατεία στη μουσική είναι γεγονός. Ως ιδιοκτήτρια της Terminal M και της Electric Avenue πως αντιμετωπίζεις αυτό το φαινόμενο;
Προσλαμβάνουμε πρακτορεία για να ψάξουν για παράνομα downloads αλλά είναι μια μάχη που δεν μπορούμε να κερδίσουμε αν δεν αλλάξει ο κόσμος νοοτροπία. Βλάπτουν τον καλλιτέχνη, την δισκογραφική και όλη την μουσική βιομηχανία. Είναι έλλειψη σεβασμού στην τέχνη το να κατεβάζεις παράνομα μουσική.

Τι μας επιφυλάσσει το μέλλον;
Ελπίζω χαρούμενες στιγμές και καλή μουσική!
