PA006 – Liquido: Nattevandring EP
This sixth release on Pattern Abuse includes some of Copenhagen’s most interesting talent, and is no doubt the strongest release on the label yet. Fitting perfectly into the label ethos of releasing tracks that work equally for the mind and the dancefloor.
Nattevandring is Danish and means a wander in the night. This title is descriptive for the title track, but also for the EP as a whole. The “nattevandring” starts out dark and moody, and progresses up and down, revealing unexpected twists and turns.
The title track leads with dark and mysterious double bass chords, setting the scene for our voyage and thumps along, repetitive and minimal. The overall sound is cold, dark, and contemplative.
Snarling (Discoshaman Remix) follows. The tempo drops – we have a long way to go. Syncopated drums and somewhat abstract melodic instrumentation characterizes this slow groover. The owls are not what they seem.
Next up: Jack Rock’s remix of the title track. The moody double bass takes on a new life accompanied by classic berlin style hard hitting kicks. Described by the artist: “straight up techno, but still storytelling”.
Liquido’s “Snarling” follows. A quirky synth arp accompanied by a classic 101 detroit bassline. Our walk takes on a new direction from dark to nice and bubbly.
But we’re not yet done. “Michael Jackson” delivers an unorthodox mix of dark hihats, deep bassline and 80’s synths. A tribute, not a rip-off.
Optimus Prime is a rolling groover. Yet another 101 bassline. Almost like a DJ tool, just meant to keep the dancefloor rolling. Acid vibes.
Our trip ends with Snarling (CX Remix). Once again, the tempo drops and the melodies get abstract. This super long groover feels like it will never end.
The Nattevandring EP can be heard as one long walk in the night. Or each track can be hand picked to fit just that DJ set. Mastered by Copenhagens master masterer Joel Krozer, each track is optimized for the dance floor.
